Baba's Character in Clear Light of Day

In the book 'Clear light of Day' written by Anita Desia, one can see that the way in which her style of creating this character was unique and also symbolic not only for his family but the readers alike. The motive of Desai's work is to leave a constant reminder within the reader's mind, where Baba's character is concerned.
Within the novel Baba represents the symbol of 'unchange'. This is so because his character keeps at a stagnant position, where his thoughts, actions, code of conduct remains with the same exact features throughout the entire play. Baba still plays with his instrument (the gramaphonea) and pebbles even though Bim attempts to get him to do other things. His features fails to comprise with anyone else actions but his. The same actions that he does which were mentioned before such as the playing with his instrument and pebbles, it was teh same exact features he did when he was a child. Therefore, Bim keeps being reminded about her childhood since he he always does the smae activuities as he did as a child. Also, he remains unchange where his health and taking care of himself is concerned. This is so because he is mentally challenge Bim still has to take care of him like she did when he was a child. So in fact every aspect of Baba remains the same because of the lack of change. Due to Baba remaining unchange, he causes Bim to also act in this manner as a resukt of him. This is so because Bim's life remians unchange since she has to take the responsibilty of taking care of him on a daily basis since both Tara and Raja left the household. Thus causing her not to be flexible with her personal life, such as getting married, since Baba's character is still unchange causing her as result to be this way since she has to take care of him because of his sickness,
In conclusion, one can see that in fact Baba's character is a symbol of unchange within the novel of Clear of Light of Day, since he traits remains stagnant such as playing with his pebbles and gramaphone throughout the novel.
